GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE BOYS!
Middlesbrough Soccability Club enjoyed the success of an exciting disability football tournament held at Middlesbrough Football Club in the Community and supported by Tees Valley Sport and The Football Association.
The two day festival was aimed at encouraging young people from both primary and secondary schools to participate in football skill sessions and matches. It gave children with special needs and learning difficulties the chance to get involved in football and express themselves in a fun, sporting environment.
Carolynn Rylander, the School Sport Coordinator for Special Education in Redcar and Eston said; “the day gave a unique opportunity for the children to improve social and physical skills and encouraged life long learning in a wonderful facility with excellent coaches.”
The young people taking part were particularly excited, with one saying; “It’s been one of the best days of my life.”
Teachers also attended the day and thought the event was invaluable;
“Its great to have something like this for the children, they will be talking about this for weeks and weeks. The smiles on the young peoples’ faces could not have been achieved without the help of the excellent MFCiC coaches, teachers, Tees Valley Sport and everyone else involved in the festival.”
As well as fun, the festival was also held to help promote the Middlesbrough FC Soccability Club held each Saturday morning for both adults and juniors at Middlesbrough Football Club in the Community, Eston.
The Soccability Club provides a dedicated disabled football programme which gives members the opportunity to develop skills and the chance to compete in local leagues, tournaments and festivals, all in a friendly and fun setting.
Brian Agar, co-manager of the Soccability Club explains; “We want everyone to get involved, it doesn’t matter what ability they have, there is a place here for everyone, we are not looking for top ability just people who want to play and have fun.”
It is hoped that the festival will encourage participation at the clubs and help create a link into schools so that young people who can’t make the club on a Saturday morning don’t miss out on all the fun.
MFCiC are currently on the look out for new sponsors to enable the Soccability Programme to continue to run and develop further.
