Kickz
KICKZ IN PALLISTER PARK
Middlesbrough Football in the Community is delivering thenew national Kickz initiative in the Pallister Park area of Middlesbrough.
The concept, launched earlier this year by Prime Minister Tony Blair, was born out of discussions between the Metropolitan Police and the football industry.
The project name and logo, Kickz, was designed and chosen by young people. The Government’s support for the programme, through the Respect Task Force, led to a desire to roll it out further and this will now lead to involvement from the Association of Chief Police Officers and Association of Police Authorities.
Nationally, funding for the programme in year 1 will be provided primarily by HM Treasury via the Football Foundation with additional support from the Department for Culture Media and Sport, the youth volunteering charity v, the Respect Task Force and the Department of Health.
Rob Lake, Manager of MFC in the Community. commented “We are delighted to be part of this exciting initiative. We have a steering group in place with a wide range of partners including police, youth services, primary care trust, leisure services, local schools, and fire service, Safe in Tees Valley and Safer Middlesbrough Partnership.
We are working closely with the STEM group (Stronger Together in East Middlesbrough) as they have match funded our scheme.
We are focusing our first programme on the Pallister Park Centre and ran a couple of taster sessions last week. This will be followed by a 3-week pilot scheme from December 5th which will lead to the full programme being launched in the New Year. We hope to engage with the 13 to 18 year old young people in the local area for 3 nights a week providing coaching and competitive games. The third evening is all about the young people’s choice of activities"

It certainly is the way to watch a football game, and the result wasn't bad either".
Some of Middlesbroughs past players and also man of the match, Mark Viduka were also on hand to raise a toast to the flagship programme.
